Delhi mourns at Diwali

BBC News: Delhi on high alert after blasts
The Indian capital Delhi has been put on high alert after three explosions rocked the city, killing at least 61 people and injuring nearly 200 others.

So tragic. The bombings themselves were horrific, but to come just a day before the Hindu new year celebration of Diwali. 2 bombs struck at the crowded Sarojini Nagar and Paharganj markets, full of shoppers buying last minute gifts and sweets for Diwali, and another on a bus at Govindpuri.

"All leave has been cancelled for medical staff as hospitals struggle to deal with the injured. More than 100 people are being treated in hospital, and some of them are in a critical condition." - BBC News

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh: "These terrorists wish to spread a sense of fear and suspicion among our peace-loving people,". He said, "These blasts have been timed to create disaffection during the festive season when people of all communities are celebrating our national festivals. We shall defeat their nefarious designs.

It is believed that the bombings were by terrorists trying to hamper improving relations between Pakistan and India, who soon after the attacks agreed to open the Kashmir Line of Control to help victims of the devastating October 8th earthquake. The decision is another welcomed step to peace between the nations.
Pakistan condemned the explosions, describing them as a "criminal act of terrorism".

Its so sad to think of the families of the victims and injured, who will be spending their Diwali by hospital bedsides or planning funerals. My thoughts are with them at this time.
