Geek - Jock Warfare

Civil war has broken out in the 6th form centre...

For a year and a term the Jocks have had all the sofas, games consoles, hi-fi and tv on their side of the common room,
and the geeks have had only dirty lockers and old tables...

The Jocks say thats how it should be...

Thats the way it has always been...

But after a year and a term, the Geeks have put down their protractors and stood up, calling for equality...

Its been over a week now. A food fight starting the war. Petty skirmishes and battles for the sofas being a daily occurence. At the moment the Geeks have 1 sofa, with plans to seize another in the early hours of tomorrow. Its all really quite funny to watch. Im not really involved, because i generally get along with everyone but am supporting the Geeks. Purely because i use that side of the common room the most and the some of the Jocks dont welcome anyone over to their side.

Funny how the whole year is divided into "Jocks" and "Geeks".

The Geeks are, according to the Jocks everyone else, although we have our own heirachy.

The Jocks are the friendly "populars" (who i get along with), the rugby-playing twats (how can any one find fun in watching/running around with a bunch of ugly fat guys chasing an oversized egg around a muddy field?!), and their bimbo girlfriends (who have a combined IQ of .5).

The "war" hasnt turned violent (yet?) appart from a Geek being dragged over to the Jock side which amused everyone, hopefully it will stay that way...

Does that happen in every sixth form? Although in ours it was the goths versus the garies (the geeks only had standing room in the corner). And it wasn't really as if the room was worth fighting over.

Surprisingly our common room is actually quite cool, so i can see why they're fighting over it.

What are the 'garies' - never heard of that particular group? Maybe its a regional slang for a group - like 'chavs' for example, -'pikeys' in the south but 'townies' in the midlands?

Garies: Kevs/Neds/Townies. Predate the chav and not as Burberrysed.

Whereas where I grew up pikeys meant travellers (as distinct from gyspies), of the sort who nick stuff from policecars (if not the car itself).

As for common rooms, we found an unused subdivided bit of a temporary classroom, and claimed that as our own. We even christened it the SLR (Scabby Little Room). Worked fine for a year and a half, until we got discovered, when we took advantage of the blacked out windows of one of the drama rooms.
